The “Magic City of the Prairie” sprang up in 1867 when the Union Pacific Railroad arrived. Soon it was the hub on the transcontinental railroad, quickly becoming the richest city per capita in the world. The streets were filled with both fine millinery and the dust and dirt from cattle drives making their way from Texas.

It was an exciting time filled with great promise, exciting adventures and new sights. A place where the wealthy aristocrats from the east and the west came to play. Today, the remnants of yesterday can still be found in the well-preserved downtown buildings and stately mansions on 17th Street and Carey Ave.
